Gary McCready's Background and Qualifications

Gary McCready and his family moved to Westfield from Manhattan in 1994. After a short stint in California in 2000, they returned to Westfield for both the great school system and the wonderful community. Their oldest son Ben is in sixth grade at Roosevelt, having started out at Franklin. Gary’s wife Jane volunteers at Wilson, where Madeline attends third grade and Charlie is in first.

Gary has served on the district’s technology committee for several years, where he coordinated the installation of the first computers in the elementary school libraries, reviewed technology purchases and helped develop policies and procedures. He was also co-president of the Advanced Learning Program Parents Association for two years, and served on the 1998 Strategic Planning Committee and Citizens Advisory Committee.

Gary presently works as a computer systems manager for an international bank in Jersey City. Previously he has held technology management positions for Cantor Fitzgerald/eSpeed, the American Stock Exchange and TIAA-CREF, and has consulted for law firms and a Manhattan newspaper. He started his career as an instructor for Digital Equipment Corporation. Gary earned a B.A. from Columbia College in 1983 including coursework at Teachers College. While at Columbia, he was a teaching assistant for several professors and taught computer classes at a private elementary school in Manhattan.

Gary is active in several computer associations, selecting lecturers and seminar content for both local and national symposia and teaching a seminar he developed in the United States, Europe and Asia. He is a member of Faith Lutheran Church, serving on its finance committee.
